Marathon des Sables

Marathon des Sables

Lord and Lady Radnor’s eldest son Jack is currently running the Marathon des Sables, credited as being the toughest footrace on earth, in aid of Horatio’s Garden.

The Marathon des Sables is six-day, 251 km ultramarathon, which is approximately the distance of six regular marathons, the longest single stage being 91 km long.  It is a multiday race held every year in southern Morocco, in the Sahara Desert.  What will Jack face whilst completing this epic challenge?  The glaring sun, heat (up to 50°C), sand and lots of it. The Fourth Day will take you out of the Saharan morning into dusk, dark and beyond as you cover more than 80kms (52 miles) in one relentless stage of running.

Jack will be running alongside 1,000 other runners from across the globe, spanning cultures and physical abilities – but united by the quest for adventure and to achieve something different from the crowd.  Not only is he doing this fantastic challenge for himself but he is trying to raise £40,000 for Horatio’s Garden.  Horatio’s Garden is a national charity creating and preserving beautiful gardens in the NHS spinal injury centres to support everyone affected by a spinal injury. They grow thriving communities to support patients, their families, and friends facing long stays in NHS hospitals.
