Schools Day 2019

8th July 2019

Schools Day 2019

The Estate hosted seven schools on the 3rd July giving the children an insight into some of the workings of the Estate and the wider countryside. The children were able to experience:

• Sheep being shorn and handle the fleeces
• Meet fox hounds and working gun dogs
• See some of the birds and mammals that live in the countryside
• How we cut trees and how we process the timber into logs
• See the variety of life that depend on our rivers, streams and ponds, arable equipment and crops
• How trout are grown commercially and touch a trout
• Meet a dairy cow and learn about beef production
• Basic plumbing and gate building

The day was organised by The Country Trust, a number of Estate staff and friends of the Estate organised the various stations that the children circulated to give the wide range of experiences, some of which many of the children hadn’t previously experienced. The day has been run for a number of years and all those involved enjoyed the day, the Estate team have all commented on how much they loved seeing the expressions on the children’s faces ranging from complete surprise to bewilderment. We are looking forward to hosting the day again next year.
