The community that live and work on Longford Estates are extremely important to its wellbeing. We will not lose sight of our past traditions but the focal point must be a strategy to support the future generation and it is our aim to share this with the community.
The Estates also play a wider community role within the rural villages of Alderbury, Downton, Nunton, Odstock and Bodenham. Where possible we offer the community many opportunities from village greens, permissive rights of way, allotment gardens, village halls, rural education access via schools days, children’s recreational areas and charitable donations.
Longford Estate is fortunate to own The Radnor Arms, Nunton and The Green Dragon, Alderbury, two free houses that add significantly to the spirit of the Community.

Given the Estates' land holding adjacent to Salisbury, it’s satellite villages and hamlets sensitive development opportunities to strengthen communities are considered. Today a more collaborative approach is taken so that development is structured to include, where possible, the community’s requirements as well as design, local materials, site layout, landscape and conservation so rather than detract, it is hoped that sympathetic developments should enhance settlements.
There is an understanding that change in regards to reshaping village boundaries is sometimes considered unnecessary. A sympathetic approach should be addressed with the long term aim of development in supporting local schools, clubs and amenities. Funds derived from development is recycled to continue to strengthen the Estates' fabric. Current schemes – Firs Road, Alderbury and Britford Lane, Harnham.
